On the Subject of Add Hominem
I don’t care if you’ve been studying because you’re going to be wrong anyway.
Pressing any of the four directional buttons will activate the module.
Once active, the module will begin counting down from 200 seconds and give a series of 15 prompts on the center screen.
Each of the four directional buttons will display a digit, one of them being the correct one to press.
The formats of the prompts may be:
- ODD/EVEN- The correct answer must have the displayed parity.
- ≥#- The correct answer must be greater than or equal to the displayed number.
- ≤#- The correct answer must be less than or equal to the displayed number.
- #L- The correct answer, when converted to English word form, must have the displayed number of letters.
However, the correct button to press must never follow the previous prompt. This does not include the first prompt, where only one button will follow the prompt.
Take note of the values of the correct answers and the directions of the buttons on which they were displayed. Once all prompts have received correct responses, these will be used to determine the passcode:
- On the grid of digits below, start at the center cell (do not count this as previously reached).
- For each press in a certain direction, move one space in that direction, wrapping around if necessary. However, if a direction is the same as the previous, replace it with the opposite direction, and move in that direction instead.
- If this cell has not been reached before, take the absolute difference between the digit in the cell and the value obtained from the button.
- Otherwise, ignore the digit in the cell and simply take the value obtained from the button.
- Take the sum of the resulting values and convert it into base 4.
- Take the button used to activate the module, and assign the digit 0 to it.
- From there, assign each remaining button, in counterclockwise order, the numbers 1, 2, and 3.
- Encode the base 4 digits obtained in step 2 into directions and enter them into the module.
The entered symbols are submitted into the module when the timer reaches zero. If the submission matches the module’s passcode, the module will solve.
