On the Subject of Listening to Piano Keys
Forgot to look at the music? Guess you'll have to play it by ear.
A Listening Piano Keys module consists of a cassette tape, a play button, a toggle switch and a piano keyboard.
Press the ▶ button to hear a familiar tune. To disarm the module, play the tune back in “Submit Mode”.
Press the switch to toggle it left or right.
When the switch is to the left:
- The module is in “Practice Mode”, and no interaction with the module will cause a strike.
When the switch is to the right:
- The module is in “Submit Mode”. When ready, enter this mode and play the tune on the piano.
- As soon as the first note is played while in this mode, the module is locked to “Submit Mode” until either a strike is gained or the module is solved by correctly submitting the entire tune.
- Playing an incorrect note at any point while in this mode will cause a strike.
Notes:
- On a strike, the tune will be re-selected and the module will automatically re-enter Practice Mode.
- Rhythm, as well as the number of times a note is immediately repeated, do not matter.
- The ▶ button is always safe and functional.
- The tune does not need to be submitted in the same key as heard as long as the entire tune still fits on the keyboard.
- Beginning on a note that puts part of the song out of range will cause a strike.
- After the module is solved, each press of the ▶ button will cause the module to randomly select a tune to play.
- After the module is solved, absolutely no interaction with the module will cause a strike.
