On the Subject of Railway Cargo Loading

For those familiar with the original manual.

Car 1:

  • If a TRN indicator, add an EL.
  • Otherwise, if LF > 200, add ICL.
  • Otherwise, if coal > 250, add SL.
  • Otherwise, if LF > coal, add ICL.
  • Otherwise, add SL.

Car 2:

  • If car 1 is a SL, add a hopper car.
  • Otherwise, if Pax > 450, add a baggage car.
  • Otherwise, treat this as car 3.

Car 3:

  • If the destination is long-haul, add a crew car if it’s not present.
  • Otherwise, treat this as car 4.

Car 4:

  • If Pax > 300 and a baggage car is not already present, add a baggage car.
  • Otherwise, refer to the PC table.

Car 5~12:

  • If the previous car is a passenger car, refer to the PC table.
  • Otherwise, refer to the FC table.

Car 13 & 14:

Car 15:

  • Every train ends with a caboose.

Cargo Notes

  • Liquid fuel includes kerosene, gasoline, and diesel, but not crude oil.
  • Food includes fruit, vegetables, and meat, but not water, milk, or grain.
  • Large objects include farming equipment, military hardware, and wings, but not automobiles, ET, or NRPV.
  • Industrial gases include helium, argon, nitrogen, and acetylene.
  • Loose bulk commodities include cement, clay, grain, ores and sand.
  • Pax refers to total passengers.
  • SM refers to Sheet metal.
  • CO refers to Cruide Oil.
  • ET/NRVP refers to a Electrical Transformer/Nuclear Reactor Pressure Vessel.
