On the Subject of Scattershot

This seems like way more buttons than anyone needs.

• You must press buttons until you find and press the
  Key Button, while avoiding pressing incorrect buttons.
• Each button has 4 traits:
  It’s color (Blue, Red, White)
  It’s shape (Triangle, Circle, Square)
  The letter written on it (U or Y)
  Whether the button is Dark or Light
• When a button is pressed, all buttons of two traits chosen at random will illuminate. These traits do not necessarily match the Key Button.
• Use the table below to find a trait that does belong to the Key Button,
  based on the two random traits that illuminate.
• Press only buttons that possess all traits known to belong to the
  Key Button. Continue pressing buttons until the Key Button is found.
  Do not press the same button twice.
• Begin by pressing any button.
