On the Subject of Symbstructions

Defuse these bombs, blah, blah, blah. Don’t kill us all, blah, blah, blah.

On the module is a timer, a screen, and a closed panel.
Tap the screen to start the timer and open the panel.

Once the panel is open, the screen will show a set of symbols, and the timer will begin counting down.*

Solve the puzzle by completing the actions depicted by the symbols. Rules may contradict each other, or negate themselves entirely, so read carefully before touching anything.

Performing an incorrect action (or letting the timer run out) will invoke a strike and wait for you to start a new puzzle.

Symbol definitions are depicted on the following pages.

*The default time limit is 60 seconds, but this can be changed in the mod settings.
(Set this to -1 to remove the timer altogether.)

Wires

A set of 3 to 6 wires will be present in the panel. Cut all applicable wires to solve the puzzle.

Some symbols have arguments, like a reference to certain wires or colors. Mandatory arguments are shown in parentheses (red in the diagrams), while optional arguments are shown in square brackets (gray in the diagrams).

Actions

These symbols indicate instructions to follow. Actions are ordered from left to right.

Cut all [color of the square] wires.
Cut all [inside color] wires that are next to (outside color) wires.

Cut all odd [border color] wires if the left half is filled.

Cut all even [border color] wires if the right half is filled.

Cut the (number)th [color] wire.
Wires must be cut in order from right to left.
Wires must be cut in order from left to right.

The (number)th rule is supposed to say the opposite.

e.g. change “even” to “odd,” or “right” to “left,” etc.

The (given number)th rule is supposed to say (triangle color).
The (top number)th rule is supposed to say (bottom number).
Treat all (top color) wires as (bottom color).
Treat the (number)th wire as (color).

Attachments

These symbols may be attached to an action symbol. They add an extra step and must be considered.

  • If an attachment is placed above an action symbol, only follow the action symbol if the condition applies.
  • If an attachment is placed below an action symbol, only follow the OPPOSITE of the action symbol if the condition applies.
    • (e.g. if the action symbol says to cut the third wire and the condition below the symbol applies, DO NOT cut the third at all costs.)
Do NOT perform the action, even if another rule says you should.
…if the (number)th wire is (color).
…if the serial number ends with a (digit).
…if there are exactly (number) (color of the line) wires.
…if there are more/less than (number) (color of the line) wires.
…but only if it is the (number)th wire.
…but only if it is adjacent to a (color) wire.
If this symbol is present and the condition does NOT apply, do NOT follow the action.

Keypad

A keypad will be present in the panel. Enter the correct 4-digit code to solve the puzzle.

Blue numbers refer to a position in the code, while black numbers are literal.

The (top number)th digit is (bottom number).
The (top number)th digit is either (number)/(number).
The sum of all four digits is (number).
The (number)th digit plus the (number)th digit equals (number).
The (number)th digit plus the (number)th digit equals the (number)th digit.
The (number)th digit is in the first/second/third column of the keypad.
The (number)th digit is in the first/second/third row of the keypad.
The digits are arranged in descending order.
The digits are arranged in ascending order.
The (top number)th digit is smaller than the (bottom number)th digit.
The (top number)th digit is the same as the (bottom number)th digit.
All four digits are unique.

The code contains exactly one (number).

The code contains at least one (number).
