On the Subject of Vex

Following a long break, the flagpole shows 3 colours in order.

Paint the flag correctly to solve the module.

Note: Duplicate colours are not allowed. See “Colour Transposing”.

Available colours: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Aqua, White and Black.

Submission: If the painted flag

• exists in the Country Table below: submit when timer has “Submit” digit in any position
• does not exist: submit when timer has last digit of serial number in any position

Strike: Submitting a wrong flag or submitting at the wrong moment

1st Colour

Refer to colours flashed at the tip. Use the first condition that applies.

Horizontal Bars 3 same colour shown: Black 2 Oranges or 2 Greens or 2 Blacks: Green 3rd is Orange or White: Yellow 1st is Blue or Green: Orange Black and Aqua both exists: Blue Yellow exists: White Else: Red Vertical Bars Sequence is Red, White, Blue (exact order): Orange 2 or 3 of the same colour are shown: Black Sequence has Blue, Red, Yellow (in any order): Aqua 2nd position is Black or Orange: Blue White and Aqua both exists: White Blue exists: Green Else: Red Nordic Cross 1st = 3rd colour flashed: Yellow Yellow in 1st/2nd and Red in 2nd/3rd: Orange Black and White both exists: Black 3rd position is Orange: Green 2nd position is Blue or Green: White Red exists: Red Else: Blue

2nd Colour

Use the first condition that applies.

• 2 batteries and lit BOB and unlit SIG: Aqua
• 3+ batteries and 2-colour Nordic Cross: follow 3rd colour ruleset for 2nd colour
• 2+ lit indicators and Horizontal Bars: Green
• Has empty port plate: Black
• Has Stereo RCA and Parallel port: Red
• More unlit than lit indicators: Blue
• Has Serial port: Yellow
• Else: White

3rd Colour

Use the Venn Diagram to get the 3rd Colour. The letter is the first letter of the colour. NOTE: K = blacK

Colour Transposing (If duplicated colours exist):

To transpose a colour, look at the initial colour’s row, and use a colour (starting from First Option) that hasn’t been taken.

Steps:

1. If flag is listed in the Country Table, skip all steps. (check submit time!)
2. Transpose the 2nd colour if it is the same as the 1st colour.
3. Transpose the 3rd colour if it is the same as the 1st or 2nd colour.
4. If after step 2, 3rd colour is now the same as 2nd colour, tranpose the 3rd colour as well.
