On the Optimization of Z

A projective plane would have been useful here.

Press Z on the keyboard to rotate the panel. Once rotated, two squares will flash between white and black.

If exactly 1 square of the two is white, treat this as an active signal. These active signals correspond to Morse Code, similar to Simon Sends. For those not familiar with Simon Sends:

  • Treat three consecutive active signals as a dash.
  • Treat one consecutive active signal as a dot.
  • Treat three consecutive inactive signals as a separator between letters.

Find that Morse sequence in the tables provided and hold Z for that many beats as its position on the table. If the defuser is unable to distinguish between the breaks between letters, use the second table instead.
